A Christmas gift for your mother or father

Tell it out loud. We write the book.

We mail a microphone. Each question appears in big letters and is read aloud. Answer from a favorite chair, and approve every chapter.

She said

“We moved to Cleveland the winter I turned nine.”

What do you remember about that first winter in Cleveland?

See what they will see

One big question at a time,
read aloud to them.

The clip-on microphone on her collar
  • Big letters, read aloud. They can listen, or read, or both.
  • The microphone we send. They clip it on, settle into their favorite chair, and talk.
  • Nothing to install. A computer, tablet, or phone all work, in the web browser.
How it works · What happens after you give it
  1. First

    They open the gift.

A printable certificate to hand over on the day.

  2. Then

    They tell it.

The next question grows out of their last answer.

  3. Before print

    They read it first.

Nothing is printed until they approve it.

  4. Weeks later

    The book arrives.

    Written, typeset, printed, and bound.

Their words, kept

Their words stay theirs.

We write it as a story, not a transcript, and keep the way they say things.

What they said
“My mother had to shut the oven door to bake it, and that was the coldest hour of the whole week.”
What the book says

It was the only hour all week that the oven door was closed, and my mother spent it on me.

How deep it goes

Every question grows out of their last answer.

A question a week“Your first job?” · “Your wedding?” Each answer stands alone.
  1. “Where did your family live when you were small?”
  2. “What was that first winter in Cleveland like?”
  3. “Then in January, the second week, the pipes froze.”
  4. “Who kept the stove going?”
Chapter 4 · The Winter Kitchen
What goes into their book

Three roots. One book.

1Their memories

Every story, put in order.

They remember out of order, the way everyone does. We gather every story and arrange the whole life into chapters.

At the end of the book

Years from now, the family will still hear the voice that told it.

Near the end, the storyteller speaks a letter to the people they choose. It is printed in the book with a small code. Scan it, and the family hears the storyteller say it. Every chapter can carry one too.

Questions

What families ask before they give it.

Something else on your mind? Email us at hello@sagaseal.com.

About them

Do they need to be good with computers?

No. If they are, they do it on their own, whenever it suits them. If they aren’t, make it an afternoon together: clip the microphone on, sit beside them, and press Next when they have finished talking. The questions appear in big letters and are read aloud. A computer, tablet, or phone all work.

What if it isn’t right?

They read it before it is printed. They read every chapter first, and we revise any chapter that does not sound right before anything is printed.

About the book

Is the book written by AI?

Their words lead; AI helps. We build every chapter from what they tell us, in their own phrases, and AI helps shape the writing on every edition. They read every chapter before anything is printed, and real people print and bind the books.

When does the book come?

After they have told their story, at their own pace. about 7 to 10 hours for The Keepsake, about 12 to 17 hours for The Life, about 18 to 27 hours for The Heirloom, in conversations of 45 minutes to an hour at their own pace. They read it, then the books are printed and shipped. Giving it on a date? Print the certificate the moment you order; the book follows.

About paying

What if they don’t like it?

They try it first, and you’re covered. Before they start: ask any time until 30 days after they open their gift, and we refund you in full.

After their first conversation with Anna: if it isn’t for them, tell us within 7 days and we refund you in full, no questions asked. Either way, you have at least 14 days from the day you bought it, and at most 4 months.

After that, there are no cash refunds, but they are never stuck. If they run out of time or energy, they can finish early and we write a shorter book from everything they have told us so far. Or they can pause, and their story waits for them. Nothing is lost.

Once they approve their final proof and their book goes to print, it can’t be refunded, unless it is faulty or arrives damaged.

Paying in three? We refund what you’ve paid and cancel the rest. Refunds go back to the card that paid. A gift box that has already shipped is not refunded.

Can I pay over time?

Yes. Any edition can be split into three payments, two weeks apart, with no interest and no fee.
