About her
Who gets to see what she says?
Private until it’s printed. Your page never shows what she has said. The family reads it when the book is printed.
Will it sound like her? When do I get to read it?
Yes, and she checks. She reads every chapter first, and we revise any that doesn’t sound right until she approves it. You read it when the finished book is in your hands. Until then, your page shows each milestone, never the words.
Does my mother need to be good with computers?
No. If she is, she does it on her own, whenever it suits her. If she isn't, make it an afternoon together: clip the microphone on her, sit beside her, and press Next when she has finished talking. The questions appear in big letters and are read aloud. A computer, tablet, or phone all work.
Does she need any special equipment?
No. Every edition comes with two clip-on microphones. Clip one on and talk from a comfortable chair: every word is picked up clearly, no leaning into a laptop. Two in the box, so one charges while the other is worn. They plug into most computers, tablets and phones. Shipped free, usually within a few days. You can start before they arrive.
What if she won’t do it?
There’s no pressure. We invite her warmly and let her decide. If she’d rather not start, you can get a full refund until 30 days after she opens her gift (at the latest, 4 months after you bought it).
Who owns the story?
Her words are hers. Her stories and transcripts belong to her, even if she never publishes.
About the book
Is it just a list of questions?
No. No two interviews are the same. Our AI interviewer listens to each answer and asks the next question from it: a name she mentions, a place, a year. While she talks, we also look up the towns and years she names, so her book carries the world she grew up in.
Is the book written by AI?
Her words lead; AI helps. We build every chapter from what she tells us, in her own phrases, and AI helps shape the writing on every edition. She reads and approves every chapter, and real people print and bind the books.
Can I add my own questions?
Yes, and so can the family. You add yours when you order, and everyone you invite to the family room can add one, with their name or anonymously. Our interviewer brings each one up at the right moment. If she wants to talk about it, it goes in her book.
How long does it take?
A few weeks of easy conversations, at her own pace. about 7 to 10 hours for The Keepsake, about 12 to 17 hours for The Life, about 18 to 27 hours for The Heirloom, in conversations of 45 minutes to an hour at her own pace. Then the books are printed and shipped. Giving it on a date? Print the certificate the moment you order; the book follows.
About giving it
What do I actually have to do?
Very little. Choose the edition, write your note, and tell us how to reach her. We take it from there. You don’t conduct the interviews, write the book, or manage the printing.
How does the gift arrive?
As a certificate you can print tonight. Every edition includes one, ready the moment you order, and the StoryMics follow in the mail. The interview starts on our website right away, from the certificate or our email invitation.
Will the book be ready by Christmas?
No. On Christmas morning you give the certificate. She tells her story in the weeks after, and the book follows.
Can I pay over time?
Yes. Any edition can be split into three payments, two weeks apart, with no interest and no fee.
What if she doesn’t like it?
She tries it first, and you’re covered. Before she starts: ask any time until 30 days after she opens her gift, and we refund you in full.
After her first conversation with Anna: if it isn’t for her, tell us within 7 days and we refund you in full, no questions asked. Either way, you have at least 14 days from the day you bought it, and at most 4 months.
After that, there are no cash refunds, but she is never stuck. If she runs out of time or energy, she can finish early and we write a shorter book from everything she has told us so far. Or she can pause, and her story waits for her. Nothing is lost.
Once she approves her final proof and her book goes to print, it can’t be refunded, unless it is faulty or arrives damaged.
Paying in three? We refund what you’ve paid and cancel the rest. Refunds go back to the card that paid. A gift box that has already shipped is not refunded.
Delivery and countries
Can you mail it?
In the US, yes. We can mail the printed certificate for free, by standard mail, in about 5 to 7 business days. Or choose the gift box with the certificate inside, $49 with shipping, by Priority Mail in about 3 business days, while boxes are in stock. The Heirloom includes the box on mailed gifts.
Both ship in the US only. Anywhere else, print the certificate tonight, or we email it on the day you choose.
Can I buy from outside the US?
Yes. Prices show in your own currency. The printable certificate and the email invitation work everywhere. The mailed certificate and the gift box ship in the US only.
Can we split the cost?
Yes, with up to 5 people. At checkout, add the family members who are chipping in. We email each of them a link to pay their share, and each can add a story to her book. A split can’t also be paid in three. How splitting works
Her voice
Who can hear a chapter?
Anyone holding the book. That is why she chooses chapter by chapter. A printed book can be lent or passed down, so she gives a code only to chapters she is happy for anyone to hear. A code she switches off plays nothing.
Can the family keep a copy?
Yes, as she allows. She can let the family listen, watch and download a copy for the family. She can narrow that at any time, though a copy already downloaded stays downloaded.
What happens to the recordings later?
She decides. We keep them while her account is open, or until she asks us to delete them. She can name a Story Keeper to look after them for her. If we ever stopped offering playback, we would tell her well ahead and give her a full download first.
She won’t write it. She’ll tell it.
You give the invitation. She tells the story from her favorite chair, one question at a time. We write it, print it, and bind it.
